Pop-up Church

Mission Verse

Vision

"Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.'" - Luke 14:23
To see the gospel go out into our city each week through worship services on the street held in every kind of neighborhood in Norfolk

The Purpose of Pop-up Church

The purpose of Pop-up Church is to engage those who may never come to a central worship gathering at a Church building. We believe that an area of engagement that is lacking in our city is the presence of direct and consistent Church- sponsored evangelistic proclamation of the gospel on the streets of our city. Pop-up Church is at its core a worship service; our goal is not merely to preach at people or to check off the ‘street evangelism’ box, but to go to our neighbors and invite them to worship with us in their own neighborhood.

Core Values

  • Gospel centrality—We desire that our ministry would embody 1 Corinthians 2:2— “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” Each message that is presented at pop-up Church is meant to communicate Christ crucified-- we believe that the power of God in bringing people to salvation is found in this message.
  • Love meets needs—We desire to provide for our neighbors around us according to their physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. We hope not only to worship in song and in preaching in these neighborhoods, but in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, sitting with the lonely, and advocating for the oppressed. Pop-up Church is a way to come into neighborhoods in our city to see what needs are present, and to meet those needs weekly.
  • Community discipleship—We desire to develop disciples in the neighborhoods where we are worshiping. The goal of this ministry is to move from evangelism to discipleship in our neighborhoods, and to see individuals from the communities we serve grow, and themselves serve alongside of us. Our goal is to have a discipleship core present in each community.
  • Local Church partnership—We desire to see the local Church in Norfolk unite in this mission. In order for services to be sustainable around the city, we must continue to partner with other local Churches in the mission of seeing the gospel go into every corner of our city.
