Week 8 - Jesus Wept

October 18 - 24

John 11:28–57; 12:1–36
Week 8 begins at a graveside, where Jesus does something deeply human... He weeps. He knows He is about to raise Lazarus from the dead, yet He enters into the grief of those He loves. Then, with a simple command, He calls Lazarus out of the tomb. In these two moments, we see both the tender compassion of Jesus and His extraordinary power over death.

But not everyone responds to Jesus in the same way. Some believe, while others begin plotting to kill Him. Mary pours out expensive perfume in an act of extravagant love, crowds welcome Him as King, and Jesus begins speaking openly about His coming death. The One who gives life is preparing to give His own life for us.

Take the readings a day at a time, Sunday through Friday, and allow these encounters with Jesus to become personal. Where are you carrying grief or disappointment that you need to bring to Him? Is there something in your life that feels beyond hope? And as you see His compassion, His power, and His willingness to give everything for you, consider your own response. What would it look like to love Him more freely, trust Him more deeply, and follow Him more fully?
